Break-even ACOS and bid

The FBA calculator works out your profit per unit after all Amazon fees. You find your conversion rate in the “Sales and Traffic” report (unit session percentage) and the cost per click in the campaign manager.

Amazon Ads calculates ACOS and ROAS exactly like this. According to Amazon, to make a profit your ACOS has to stay below your profit margin. That limit is your break-even ACOS.

Highest bid from your conversion rate

If one in ten visitors buys, you need 10 clicks per sale on average. If you keep €6 per unit before ads, those 10 clicks may cost €6 in total, so €0.60 per click. Above that every advertised sale is a loss.

That is why a better conversion rate pays twice: at 15 instead of 10 % a click may already cost €0.90. Good images, a clear title and reviews also raise the bid you can afford.

Where to find the numbers

  • Ad spend, ad sales, ACOS and cost per click in the campaign manager, per campaign or for all of them.
  • Conversion rate in Seller Central in the “Sales and Traffic” report as unit session percentage.
  • Total sales in the same report, for the same period as your ad numbers.
  • Profit per unit before ads from your own costing or the FBA calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate ACOS?

Divide your ad spend by your ad sales and multiply by 100. €250 ad spend on €1,000 ad sales is an ACOS of 25 %.

How do I calculate ROAS?

Divide your ad sales by your ad spend. €1,000 ad sales on €250 ad spend is a ROAS of 4. ROAS is the inverse of ACOS: ROAS equals 100 divided by ACOS in percent.

What is a good ACOS?

One below your break-even ACOS. You get it from your profit per unit before ads divided by the selling price. With €6 profit and a €29.99 price that is 20 %. Above it every advertised sale costs you money.

What is TACOS on Amazon?

TACOS stands for total advertising cost of sales: your ad spend divided by your total sales, including every sale without ads. If TACOS falls while sales grow, you are selling more without ads.

What is the difference between ACOS and ROAS?

Both compare ad spend and ad sales, just the other way round. For ACOS lower is better, for ROAS higher. An ACOS of 25 % equals a ROAS of 4, an ACOS of 50 % a ROAS of 2.

Are my numbers stored?

No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser.
