What Amazon removes from product reviews
Amazon wants positive and negative opinions. It only removes reviews that break its Community Guidelines. On amazon.com these include:
| Violation | Example |
|---|---|
| Only about the seller, ordering or shipping | “Arrived late”, “box was damaged”, returns, shipping cost |
| Price comparisons and availability | “$8 cheaper at another store”. Commenting on value for money is allowed. |
| Links and promotion | Links to other stores, affiliate and referral codes |
| Personal information | Phone numbers, emails, addresses, license plates, order numbers |
| Abuse, hate, threats | Profanity, harassment, defamation |
| Conflict of interest | Reviews by competitors, family or in exchange for money, free products or refunds (except Amazon Vine) |
| Medical claims (.com only) | Claims to prevent or cure serious diseases |
| Review before delivery (.com only) | Reviewing a product the customer hasn't received |
A review is not removed just because it compares your product unfavorably, because the reviewer isn't a verified buyer, or because it feels unfair.
How to report a product review
- Open the product page, click Report below the review and choose a reason.
- Amazon reviews it against its guidelines. Removal is at Amazon's discretion, and you are not notified.
- Money for reviews? Use the Report review compensation form.
- Competitor attacks on amazon.com: Seller Central, Help, Get Support or Account Health, then Report Abuse.
Only report what you can back up. Frequent unfounded or identical reports can get your access to reporting blocked.
Seller feedback removal
Seller feedback goes through Feedback Manager only: Request removal, within 90 days of the feedback. Requests through other channels can lead to deactivation.
| Amazon removes it if … | Amazon keeps it if … |
|---|---|
| the whole feedback is a product review | it mixes product and service |
| it contains profanity, hate speech or personal information such as full names | it's about the accuracy of your listing |
| it's about another seller | it's about the condition of the item, which you're responsible for |
What is banned
- Asking buyers to change or remove a review, even after a refund or replacement.
- Money, coupons, discounts or free products for reviews, or for changing or removing them.
- Asking for positive reviews or diverting unhappy customers to support first.
- Reviewing your own or a competitor's products, also through family, friends or employees.
In the US the FTC rule on consumer reviews (16 CFR Part 465) bans fake reviews and review suppression since October 21, 2024. In the UK fake reviews are banned under the DMCC Act since April 6, 2025.
Frequently asked questions
Can I get a negative Amazon review removed?
Only if it breaks Amazon's Community Guidelines. An honest bad experience with the product stays up, even if it's harsh. Typical violations are reviews that only focus on shipping or the seller, price comparisons with other stores, links, personal information and abuse.
How do I report an Amazon review?
Click Report below the review on the product page and choose a reason. Amazon reviews it and doesn't notify you when a review is removed. Amazon gives no fixed time frame. For product reviews, Amazon staff also pointed sellers to community-help@amazon.com.
How do I remove seller feedback?
In Seller Central via Feedback Manager, Request removal, within 90 days of the feedback. Requests through other channels can lead to account deactivation, Amazon warns. For FBA orders Amazon strikes through feedback that is entirely about delivery, and on amazon.com also for late Buy Shipping orders that were shipped on time.
Can I ask the buyer to change their review?
No. Amazon bans asking customers to change or remove a review, even after a refund or replacement. The Brand Registry tool to contact 1 to 3 star reviewers was removed in June 2026. You may solve the problem as long as you don't ask for a different review.
What about fake reviews from competitors?
Report them below the review. Reviews by competitors break the guidelines. If someone offers money or products for reviews, use Amazon's Report review compensation form. Brand Registry's Report a Violation is for intellectual property only and doesn't take reviews.
Is it legal to remove negative reviews in the US?
Asking Amazon to remove reviews that break its rules is fine. Under the FTC rule on reviews (16 CFR Part 465, in force since October 21, 2024) businesses may not suppress honest reviews through unfounded legal threats or intimidation, and may not buy fake or negative reviews.
Are my pasted reviews stored?
No. The check runs entirely in your browser.
