Unit price calculator The German Grundpreis per kg and litre.

Selling in Germany means showing a unit price, the Grundpreis, next to the total price. Enter price and quantity and you get it per 1 kg, 1 l, 1 m or 1 m², as the Price Indication Ordinance (PAngV) requires, plus a line to copy and the two values Amazon needs. Free, no sign-up.

The five units are set out in § 5 (1) PAngV. Since the new ordinance took effect on May 28, 2022 they apply to small packs as well. Goods sold by the piece, such as a mug or a lamp, need no unit price.

When you don't need a unit price

  • Below 10 g or 10 ml nominal weight or volume.
  • Unit price equals total price, i.e. exactly 1 kg, 1 l, 1 m or 1 m² in the offer.
  • Different products in one pack that are not mixed, for example a gift set of shower gel and body lotion.
  • Cosmetics only for colouring or beautifying skin, hair or nails, such as lipstick or nail polish.
  • Perfume and scented water with at least 3 % fragrance oil and at least 70 % pure ethyl alcohol by volume.

All exceptions are listed in § 4 (3) PAngV.

Unit price on Amazon

Amazon does not read the unit price from your title. It calculates it from two values in the offer: the unit count (unit_count, a value like 500) and the unit count type (unit_count_type). For Germany Amazon allows the types Gramm, Meter, Milliliter, Quadratmeter and Stück (grams, metres, millilitres, square metres, pieces). This applies to every route: Excel templates, Seller Central and feeds.

  • Kilograms and litres are not available as a type. Enter 1.5 kg as 1500 grams and 2 l as 2000 millilitres. The calculator shows you the right number.
  • Pieces are a unit type on Amazon, but not a unit price under the PAngV. If you sell by weight or volume, use grams or millilitres.
  • For multipacks the total quantity in the offer counts, not the contents of one pack.
  • Check the product page after saving. Only there do you see whether the unit price shows up next to the price.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the unit price?

Divide the price by the quantity in the base unit. 500 g for €12.99 is 0.5 kg, so €12.99 divided by 0.5 is €25.98 per 1 kg. For liquids you calculate in litres, for goods sold by length in metres and for goods sold by area in square metres.

Can I show the unit price per 100 g?

Not for packaged goods. § 5 (1) PAngV sets the unit as 1 kg, 1 l, 1 m³, 1 m or 1 m², small packs included. 100 g or 100 ml are only allowed for loose goods that are weighed or measured at the time of sale.

Who has to show a Grundpreis?

Anyone offering goods to consumers in Germany by weight, volume, length or area. The unit price has to appear next to the total price, clearly visible and easy to read (§ 4 (1) PAngV).

How do I calculate the unit price of a multipack?

With the total quantity of all packs in the offer. 6 bottles of 0.5 l each are 3 l. If the pack costs €8.99, the unit price is €3.00 per litre. Just enter the number of packs in the calculator.

Where do I enter the unit price on Amazon?

Not as a price. Amazon asks for two values: the unit count and the unit count type. For amazon.de the types are grams, millilitres, metres, square metres and pieces. So 500 g goes in as 500 grams, 1.5 l as 1500 millilitres.

Does the unit price apply to the drained weight?

Yes, where a drained weight has to be stated, for example pickles in a jar, the unit price refers to it (§ 5 (4) PAngV). Enter the drained weight as the contents.

Are my numbers stored?

No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser.
